History of Benbrook
Before any Anglo settlers come to the Benbrook real estate area, it was home to wild buffalo and many Indian tribes, such as Comanche, Wichita, Lipan Apache and Cadoo.  In 1850, part of the Peter’s Colony settled the area.  A contract was granted to WS Peters.  This contract was to get 250 families a year to come to the area.  They were offered 320 acres of Benbrook real estate for free to men with families and 160 acres to the single immigrants.  Each claim got a free cabin and seed to start their farms.

In 1884, the Benbrook Common School District was established.  However, in 1885, the district was renamed Benbrook School.  The residents of Benbrook real estate were the first in Tarrant County to vote for school taxes and, by 1905, there were 65 students in the district.

In 1874, James Benbrook came to the area with his family.  In 1891, they built a large Victorian house just east of the community, on Walnut Creek.  Mr. Benbrook petitioned the Texas & Pacific Railroad in 1876.  The petition was to put a station near Miranda, along Mary’s Creek.  In 1880, the line to Benbrook was completed and the station was name Benbrook Station.  Two trains stopped each day in Benbrook during the 1890s.  The city was named for James Benbrook.
